Hogan Warns Constituents of Phone Scam Using AI Technology
5/7/2024
HARRISBURG – Rep. Joe Hogan (Bucks) today warns constituents across the 142nd District that scammers have begun using Artificial Intelligence to fake the voice of elected representatives in Pennsylvania. These callers are attempting to commit fraud by using the fake recording to ask for money for charitable organizations. This is a scam.

“Scammers have been getting more creative with their tactics in recent years,” said Hogan. “Their newest tactic now includes using AI to replicate voices and use it to scam you out of your hard-earned money. This has already happened in another area of the state, by fabricating the voice of one of my colleagues. I will never ask any of my constituents to donate money to a charity over the phone. If you get a call that sounds like me asking for money, it is a scam.”

The incident in question happened in Tioga County and has been referred to law enforcement, including the attorney general’s office.
Hogan advises residents that if they receive the scam call to please contact the proper authorities immediately and let them know. If you have any questions, please reach out to his office at 215-752-6750.
